Summer 2024 Northumberland beaches

Nearly time to hit the beach with your favourite beach towel clips, question is, where to go?

Let’s start this summer series of blogs with a favourite region of mine….

Northumberland, located in the northeastern part of England, boasts some stunning beaches that are perfect for exploring. Here are **eight** of the best beaches in Northumberland:

  1. Bamburgh Castle Beach: This wide expanse of pristine, sandy beach is overlooked by the majestic Bamburgh Castle. It's an ideal spot for long, wind-swept walks year-round. The water temperatures might not get particularly warm even in summer, but the castle backdrop makes up for it! 🏰🏖️
  1. Embleton Bay: A long stretch of golden sand, Embleton Bay is framed by the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. The unspoiled beauty of this area is captivating, and it's perfect for leisurely strolls. 🌅🏰
  1. Cocklawburn Beach: This stunning beach, backed by grassy dunes, lies on the North Sea coast between Berwick and the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve. It's a popular spot for walkers, and both the Northumberland Coast Path and the National Cycle Route pass nearby. 🚶‍♂️🏖️
  2. Longhoughton Beach: Also known as Howdiemont Sands and Burn Mouth, this remote beach features sand, shingle, and rocks. It's excellent for exploring rock pools, fishing, or simply taking in the natural beauty. 🌊🐚
  3. Alnmouth Beach: Situated at the mouth of the River Aln, Alnmouth Beach offers a wide sandy bay. The charming village of Alnmouth, with its red-roofed houses, adds to the picturesque setting. 🌊🏡
  4. Druridge Bay: A 7-mile stretch of golden sandy shoreline, Druridge Bay is backed by grassy dunes. Along this coast, you'll find remnants of pillboxes and anti-tank blocks from historical defences. 🏖️🌾
  5. Cresswell Beach: Set on the southern edge of Druridge Bay, Cresswell Beach boasts extensive sand dunes and seems to stretch forever during low tide. It's one of the best sandy beaches on the Northumberland coast. 🌊🏄‍♂️
  1. Rumbling Kern Beach: This lesser-known gem offers tranquillity and natural beauty. It's a great spot for those seeking a quieter beach experience. 🏖️🌿

Whether you're a nature lover, a history enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful escape, Northumberland's beaches have something for everyone!

Don’t forget, if you’re heading to one of these beaches you’ll need to pack your beach towel clips, they were handy when we sat on Bamburgh beach stopping our beach towel blowing away! 🌴🌊🏰
